LG and Toyota take over the ultium battery plant in Lansing

According to Reuters, South Korean company LG Energy Solution is partnering with Japanese automaker Toyota to take over the Ultium plant in Lansing, Michigan, where nickel-based NCMA battery modules will be produced for Toyota’s future electric vehicles
Among these models is the potential bZ5X, a crossover larger than the current bZ4X, designed to compete with the Chevrolet Equinox EV. This fully electric vehicle, which will be assembled in Georgetown, Kentucky, is expected to offer three rows of seats, similar to the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9, both already manufactured in the United States.
The Lansing plant had been put up for sale by General Motors. However, this transaction will have no impact on the joint agreement between LG Energy Solution and GM in Ultium Cell Batteries. GM will continue sourcing batteries from its facilities in Warren, Ohio, and Spring Hill, Tennessee.
