According to the Reuters news agency, the European Commission will uphold its 2035 deadline, requiring that all new vehicles (cars or vans) sold in Europe meet a zero CO₂ emissions standard. This means manufacturers will no longer be able to market new gasoline or diesel-powered models, forcing them to adopt fully electric propulsion.
This regulation must be adhered to despite fluctuations in the popularity and sales of electric cars. Moreover, it will push European automakers to accelerate the development of their electric vehicles to better compete with Chinese brands, which, by all accounts, are already more advanced in this sector.
